Qualitative characteristics of four Sicilian monofloral honeys from Apis mellifera ssp. sicula

نویسندگان

چکیده

Four monofloral honeys, obtained from the Sicilian black bee by foraging on thistle, sulla, chestnut and eucalyptus, were studied. Results showed that phenolic composition of honey was highest (316 mg gallic acid equivalent GAE/kg), while sulla lowest (122 GAE/kg). Data confirmed a correlation between total phenol content colour intensity in honey, which darkest four samples. Sulla antioxidant activity, eucalyptus had mineral (K, Ca, Mg, Na). Thistle most intense floral fruity aromas, as well an -yellow colour. Principal component analysis potential to discriminate different honeys three quadrants.

Monofloral honeys by Sicilian black honeybee (Apis mellifera ssp. sicula) have high reducing power and antioxidant capacity

Thirty samples from thirteen Sicilian monofloral honeys by the local black honeybee, and two honeydew honeys, were studied to assess phenol content, reducing power and antioxidant capacity as well as correlations among these parameters. Honeys from Apiaceae showed the highest phenol amount and capacity to reduce ferric ion and stable chemical radicals, whereas honeys from Leguminosae the lowest...

Physicochemical and antioxidant properties of Malaysian honeys produced by Apis cerana, Apis dorsata and Apis mellifera

BACKGROUND The aim of the present study was to evaluate the physicochemical and antioxidant properties of Malaysian monofloral honey samples-acacia, pineapple and borneo honey-and compare them with tualang honey. Acacia and pineapple honey are produced by Apis mellifera bees while borneo and tualang honey are produced by Apis cerana and Apis dorsata bees, respectively. METHODS The physical pa...

Flavonoids from Apis mellifera Beeswax

The flavonoids present in beeswax produced in “La Alcarria” region were analyzed by HPLC. Pinocembrin, pinobanksin, pinobanksin 3-acetate, chrysin, galangin and techtochrysin were detected as the main flavonoid constituents. This is the first detailed report on the flavonoids o f beeswax. These substances are already present when wax scales are secreted by bees. The same flavonoid compounds wer...
